FAQs
Humbra Firefly is a modular two-part system composed of a hitch-mounted base and a freestanding canopy. It connects directly to any vehicle equipped with a standard 2" receiver hitch, making it compatible with most trucks, SUVs, other utility vehicles, and some short-roof vans.
For added stability and wind resistance during setup, the system includes custom-engineered suction cups that securely anchor the canopy to your vehicle’s roof or upper surface. These suction cups are designed to be easy to apply and remove, providing additional structural integrity without causing any damage to your paint or finish.
This combination of hitch-mount anchoring and roof support ensures a sturdy, wind-tolerant shelter that remains stable in a variety of outdoor environments—no roof racks or permanent modifications required.
Most pickup trucks and standard SUVs do not require an extension. The distance from the hitch pin to the leading edge of the canopy shaft is 24”. Please measure accordingly to determine if your vehicle requires an extension.
Certain vehicles with larger or rear-swinging cargo doors will require an extension to ensure full articulation:
- Large SUVs (e.g., Toyota 4Runner, Chevy Suburban): 7" extension recommended
- Vehicles with horizontal swing gates (e.g., Jeep Wrangler): 12" extension recommended
- Larger swing-gate vehicles (e.g., Ford Bronco): 18" extension recommended
To confirm your fit, measure from the center of your hitch pin to the farthest point of your open rear door. This will help determine what extension is necessary for full canopy function and door clearance.
The Firefly canopy folds down to a compact 60" x 16" x 12" and weighs 37 lbs, including the telescopic mast. The hitch component is a fixed steel weldment, measuring 29" x 16" x 2" and weighing 13 lbs.
The included telescopic suction cups feature a 3.5" diameter base with an arm that extends from 9" to 12.5" for adjustable roof anchoring.
Yes—thanks to its built-in adjustability, the Firefly is designed to accommodate most camper shells. The system offers 5.5” of vertical adjustment, helping it clear taller setups. When deployed, the distance from the top of the horizontal hitch tube to the umbrella's shuttle plate is 56”, and to the canopy’s outer edge is 60”. With the added adjustment, you can extend these measurements by up to 5.5” as needed. We recommend measuring your vehicle setup to ensure proper clearance.
The Firefly is designed for simple, straightforward setup and can generally be installed by one person. However, depending on individual strength or experience, mounting the canopy into the hitch may require two adults for ease and safety. We recommend ensuring the surrounding area is clear of people and obstacles during installation to prevent injury or damage
Yes—when properly secured, the Firefly is engineered to handle gusts of 25+ mph. Its stability comes from a 3-point anchor system, which includes a heavy-duty hitch-mounted base and two adjustable suction cups that secure to your vehicle’s roof. This setup significantly increases wind resistance by distributing force across multiple points of contact. Combined with its robust aluminum frame and high-tension fabric canopy, the Firefly offers dependable performance—even in unpredictable conditions. For best results, always deploy with all anchor points engaged.
Yes—every component of the Firefly is designed with longevity and serviceability in mind. Unlike traditional umbrellas or awnings that use permanent rivets, the Firefly features bolted connection points throughout its structure, including on the canopy ribs. This makes it easy to remove and replace any part, whether it's a rib, hinge, mast section, or mounting component.
For example, if a rib is damaged, it can be detached by simply removing two bolts—no special tools or technical expertise required. Just reach out to us and we’ll provide the replacement part at cost. Our goal is to keep your Firefly in the field, not in the garage. This modular design ensures you're investing in a product that’s not only durable but also fully serviceable for years of reliable use.
The Firefly is constructed from high-performance materials chosen for their strength, durability, and resistance to the elements. Its frame is built from aircraft-grade aluminum, offering a lightweight yet exceptionally rigid structure that stands up to regular outdoor use. The canopy itself is made from 100% premium, solution-dyed polyacrylic fabric—designed to resist fading, water, and UV damage even after prolonged sun exposure.
All hardware components, including fasteners and connection points, are crafted from 308 and 316 stainless steel, ensuring excellent resistance to rust and corrosion in coastal, wet, or high-humidity environments. Every material on the Firefly has been selected with long-term outdoor performance in mind, making it a dependable companion for both recreational adventures and demanding commercial applications.
The Firefly system is only sold as a complete unit and not as individual components. However, if you’ve already purchased a Firefly and need a replacement part, we’re happy to assist with that—just reach out and we’ll help get you what you need.
While we don’t advertise the Firefly canopy as 100% waterproof, it is built to handle serious weather. The canopy is made from premium 100% solution-dyed polyacrylic fabric, weighing in at 295 +/- 15g/m² — a dense, high-performance textile designed for durability in harsh outdoor environments.
This material is extremely water-resistant, thanks to a tight weave and advanced surface treatment that causes rain to bead and roll off the surface. In most conditions—including extended downpours—the Firefly canopy will provide reliable protection and keep you dry. It’s the same grade of fabric often used in marine and commercial applications, making it a trusted choice for long-term outdoor exposure.
For even more protection, all seams are strategically placed and reinforced to minimize potential leakage points, ensuring comfort and coverage anywhere you travel.
Yes, the Firefly’s canopy textile is fully removable and replaceable. It's secured with five socket head screws (one at the end of each rib) and five clips at the top of the mast.
To remove the fabric:
- Partially open the frame to the “half-cock” position.
- Unscrew the socket head bolts.
- Close the umbrella to relieve tension on the textile.
- Unclip the fabric from the top plate.
- Gently peel the textile upward to remove.
To reinstall, simply reverse the process.
Currently, the Firefly is not compatible with vans. Recent design updates have optimized the canopy’s position for pickups and SUVs by bringing it closer to the vehicle roof. However, this adjustment limits clearance for taller vehicles like vans. We are actively developing an extended telescopic shaft specifically for van applications, which will be fully compatible with all existing Firefly models. Stay tuned!
At Humbra, we stand by the durability and quality of our products. The Firefly hitch is covered by a limited lifetime warranty, ensuring it won’t crack, bend, or fail under proper use. It’s constructed from robust steel, designed to endure long-term use in both commercial and recreational environments.
The canopy system, including its structural frame and textile components, is backed by a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty. This covers any defects in materials or workmanship under normal use conditions.
Because the Firefly is designed with replaceable parts and user-friendly maintenance in mind, we encourage owners to periodically check and tighten fasteners—especially in high-use environments—to maintain optimal performance. If any component fails due to a manufacturing issue, we’ll make it right by sending a replacement part or finding the most effective solution to get you back up and running.
We’re committed to ensuring your Firefly performs reliably for years to come.
Humbra Firefly is engineered to deliver unmatched versatility, ease of use, and durability — making it far more than a temporary solution. Unlike traditional pop-ups or side-mounted awnings that often require permanent installation or struggle in wind, the Firefly sets up in under 90 seconds, offers 360° rotation, and stands strong in demanding conditions. Its sleek, hitch-mounted design requires no roof racks and adapts effortlessly between recreational outings and job site operations.
Built with premium materials and backed by a 1-year manufacturer warranty, the Firefly is designed for long-term use.
